Among these, the Community Language Learning (CLL) method stands out due to its unique learner-centered and collaborative approach. Rooted in humanistic principles, CLL seeks to create a supportive and interactive environment where learners can thrive. What is Community Language Learning (CLL) Method?

Community Language Learning is an innovative language teaching method developed by Charles A. Curran in the 1970s (Rajendran et al., 2024). It is based on the principles of counseling-learning, where the teacher acts as a counselor and the learners are seen as clients. This method emphasizes mutual respect, trust, and understanding between the teacher and learners, fostering a safe and supportive learning environment.       Characteristics of Community Language Learning

 There are some  characteristic of CLL method (Nurhasanah, 2015), such as: 

1. Learning encompasses the whole individual.
2. Building relationships between teachers and students is crucial.
3. Language is taught for communication or to meet student needs.
4. It is the social process of transitioning from childish reliance to self-direction and independence.
5. There is no established syllabus. The syllabus is created mostly by the students themselves.
6. Combining creative and conventional approaches.
7. Learners regard learning as a shared process rather than an individual accomplishment.
8. Teachers create a safe environment for pupils to study and flourish.
9. Teachers and students are full individuals. Sharing their learning experiences helps students get to know one another and form a community.
10. CLL focuses on student-centered learning.
11. CLL is intended for monolingual discussion classrooms, where the teacher-counselor speaks in the students' native language (L1).
12. CLL stresses fluency.
13. CLL empowers students by actively engaging them in the learning process.

Learner-Centered Approach

The learner-centered approach is a hallmark of CLL. Unlike traditional methods where the teacher directs the learning process, CLL places the learner at the center. The teacher's role is to facilitate and guide rather than dictate, allowing learners to take ownership of their learning journey.
